EMDR

🔹 WHAT IS EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process unresolved traumatic memories.

It involves briefly focusing on distressing experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements), allowing the brain to reduce the emotional intensity connected to those memories.

EMDR is extensively researched and has been shown to be effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and related conditions.

🔹 HOW EMDR IS DIFFERENT

EMDR does not require you to talk through every detail of what happened or complete homework between sessions.

Rather than focusing only on changing thoughts or behaviors, EMDR helps the brain resume its natural healing process.

For many people, this leads to meaningful change in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

🔹 HOW EMDR AFFECTS THE BRAIN

The brain naturally works to process and integrate experiences.

When trauma is unresolved, the nervous system can remain in a state of distress—leading to symptoms such as anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or feeling “stuck.”

EMDR supports communication between key areas of the brain involved in memory and emotional regulation, allowing these experiences to be processed and integrated.

The memory remains—but the emotional intensity and reactivity are significantly reduced.

🔹 WHAT EMDR HELPS WITH

EMDR is effective for a wide range of concerns, including:

• Trauma and PTSD

• Anxiety and panic

• Depression

• Substance use and relapse

• Shame and negative self-beliefs

• Grief and loss

• Performance anxiety

• Chronic stress and burnout

👉 EMDR is especially effective for people who feel “stuck” in patterns they understand — but can’t change.

🔹 WHAT A SESSION FEELS LIKE

You remain fully in control and aware throughout the process.

Most clients describe EMDR as focused, structured, and often relieving — especially compared to repeatedly talking through the same experiences.

🔹 WHY IT’S EFFECTIVE

EMDR targets the root of distress — not just the symptoms.

By resolving how experiences are stored in the brain, it allows for lasting change rather than temporary relief.
